"I get to be creative every day, with instant feedback," says Adam Ward, owner/chef of Bambu Restaurant in Medford, an easy grin punctuating his statement. Jazz plays softly in the background. Clad in a white chef's coat and wide-striped black and white pants, Adam speaks enthusiastically about the second love of his life—food. His wife Veronica ranks number one.
As a boy growing up in Ashland, Adam dreamed of either exploring space as an astronaut or piloting Air Force fighter jets, but he rarely sat idle. When not playing with his four siblings, swinging a baseball bat, swimming or wrestling, Adam held down a paper route and other odd jobs. By high school he'd landed in the restaurant industry.
